Currently, our generation of youth faces hierarchial gaps in knowledge as our society advances into the digital realm. Children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds with less access to technology encounter disadvantages, becoming apparent in their mathematical and literacy skills according to professor Wim Van Lanker. These gaps are far worse than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic priorities and promotes online learning, truly singling out those who lack the resources to succeed. For this reason, it is our mission to provide technology for kids in need in our communities, and around the world.

The Pickering Reading Circle is an organization that helps children improve in literacy and numeracy. Our organization wants to further extend our reach to help children in need of technology during these trying times, such that they are given the same access and opportunities as others. We strive to make a transnational impact with this fundraising initiative and accomplish our mission of helping every child succeed.

Our Goal?
Our goal is to provide technology for children who are unable to access their own at home, starting local with our communities in Durham Region, and eventually mobilizing our efforts world-wide. We hope to soon be able to send technology to Carribean countries, where many families suffer from the lack of resources for student success.
